Making a swede

Making a swede

A swede is a recreation of a popular film using limited budgets. It incorporates all the important/key scenes home-made props and poor quality sound.

The film me and my group decided to make a swede for is Freaky Friday. It is a really funny and movie and we thought it would be suitable for us to make a swede. We are going to use the key scenes from the beginning, middle and end in order to let the audience know what the film is about. We will have to make sure we use key lines and music when needed. Costumes and props needed will be decided amongst our group and we will use them when recording our swede.

This is an example of a swede I found on youtube :

Production, Distribution,Marketing & Exhibition

Production, Distribution, Marketing & Exhibition

There are four stages in making a movie these are:

Production : In order to make a film that will succeed and make profit someone needs to come up with the idea on what the movie will be about. As we know there are many different genres in the film industry so these ideas could be anything. In the production process the film is created and shot, this is done by a crew where each person has their own role and a cast where actors are ready to be recorded. The people involved in the production process are the main directors, the script supervisor, the assistant directors, the sound and picture editors etc. Without these people the production of the film couldn't be completed.

Distribution: Distribution is all about where the film is going to go when it is released. Once the film is released it can go straight onto DVD's or it could be shown in cinema's all around the world or in a particular country. Film festivals are a good way to make the audience aware of the films that are newly released and it is an opportunity for film distributors to spot your film and invest in it if they think it will bring success and profit to the film industry.

Marketing: Marketing your film is one of the key aspects to the success or failure of the film you produce. If marketing goes wrong or isn't strong enough then it wouldn't reach out to a large audience which then will lead to no profit. There are different ways in promoting your films such as trailers, film posters, billboard advertisements, internet, television and radio etc. Skyfall is an example of good advertising and marketing because it generated $1 billion when it was released and viewed by many different audiences around the world.

Exhibition: Exhibition involves exhibitors which are companies like Cineworld and Odeon. Audiences get to see the films that are released through cinema's which offer digital exhibition like Cineworld and Odeon. As we know the recession has limited the things people used to do, going to the cinema to watch a new release is one of these. Nowadays many people prefer watching films at home. The main reason for the cause of this is PIRACY. Piracy has become so good that people stream films online and can find them with no difficulty, so they don't bother wasting their money and prefer watching films for free. This is one of the key problems the film industry is facing and will still be facing in the future due to technology.

Production, Distribution, Marketing and Exhibition

The film industry is a very influencial industry as its very difficult to miss anything a film company puts out there. There are 4 different parts to the process of creating a film that the film industry goes through. They go through these in order to create profit-making movies. Its a very good industry to go into as there are many sections that fan out to many other jobs as technology is improving every day. The film industry is very current and requires people to work in these four areas:

Production

This area is where the idea starts. Whats a film without an idea? New film ideas are inspired by old films as well as pretty much anything; from dreams/true stories/fantasy and many more...

This is why this is a growing business, because there are so much we dont know yet! From the idea comes people to work on a script. Then from there a crew and cast is gathered, a set is discussed and people who take care of the crew and cast are hired to provide food, trailers and other necesities. Then finally they can produce the film. All the takes are then look at by editors to complete the production process.

Distribution

Distribution is how the film gets to the audience. Film festivals show new releases very often to potential distributors who invest in movies that can produce profit and these deals are very important if you want your film to be recognised around the area, a country or the world. Some films go straight to DVD or bluray or are displayed in the cinema.

Marketing

This is the part where the advertisers and marketers come in. They make sure that your film gets the publicity it needs to become a success. Movies like avatar didnt generate billions of pounds from no billboard or tv or poster advertisements. They made sure that this movie get on every bus stop, bus, billboards in the motorway, tube, street so that it would be a success. Most quality movies are invested in in terms of marketing because it can be guranteed that people will watch it if they see a poster of it or something. More people seeing it means more people paying to see it in the cinemas or purchasing it from stores.

Exhibition

Exhibition or exchange is the fourth and last section as it follows the films after they have been watched. This leads to feedback from the audience whether it's by the percentage of sales or experience; how the movie impacted the audience from all ages and diversities. It can help film makers create future films that can be better than the best film of 2012 or 2013. It can determine whether the films they make will be the next big thing. They will ask the questions of who watches these films or who pays for them?

Since piracy is a big obstacle that film makers are always trying to overcome, they need to find ways to capture the audience. 3D and 4D is a bug contributor to people paying for the experience instead of just downloading it for free on the internet because even the internet is becoming better and faster. This area can help the film industry go back to the production stage and create newer and better films.

Creating a Swede

In order to create a swede, you need to pick a film... So my group and I chose 'Freaky Friday' starring Lindsay Lohan and Jaime Lee Curtis. We thought since the movie was funny and had a good storyline that we can recreate it would be a perfect little project for us.

In order to prepare we collected the necessary props like a fortune cookie and some outfits that fits the characters of the movie. We also needed to pick out the main scenes of the movie from beginning where the mother and daughter fight at the restaurant to middle where they wake up in different bodies and try to run into eachother but end up going about their day normally to the ending where they get to the wedding and can't seem to fix their problem. Key lines and scenes should be captured as well as music.

Here is a trailer of the movie:

SWEDES

A swede is a parody or naff remake of a real movie. It portrays the characters and main scenes with a comedic approach to the actual film using props, sound and video effects.
Here are some that I really enjoyed from a youtube channel, The Multiverse:

Fim releases

Mostly Hollywood films are released in cinemas this week and there's only a few of these film releases in 3D. Not a lot are big budget films.

Only one British movie is out and it goes by the name of "About time" by Richard Curtis.

Judging by these facts we can clearly see that international films/ 3D movies are less popular.
