Production

Budget:

Thor 2 has been long anticipated after its prequels Thor and the Avengers. Because of how successful its prequels were, Marvel decided to produce a sequel in hopes of making an even bigger profit.
It is Marvel's tent pole movie this year and they hope to make a marginal profit from it. It was released on 30th October 2013 and gained a lot of attention at the premiere at Odeon Leicester Square. The main stars of this production are Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman and Tom Hiddleston who play the three main characters; Thor, Jane and Loki. The actors involved in the film also contribute to attracting an audience as well known actors may influence an audiences decision to see the movie. The film was shot in London and Iceland and was seen as an extensive film project. The director also plays a part in encouraging an audience to view the film as Alan Taylor is known for directing Games Of Thrones which was a massive hit. It contains cross media convergence as it first started out as a comic that was then developed into a film and branches out into other areas of Marvel.

Marketing/Distribution

To promote Thor 2; The Dark World, Marvel released a teaser trailer in April 2013 which played for 106 seconds to entice the audience. It features the main characters from the prequel along with clips of main action scenes from the movie Later on in August of the same year, a second trailer was released which extends on the previous trailer, making audiences anticipate the movie. At the 2013 San-Diego Comic Con, Tom Hiddleston dressed up as Loki and introduced official footage from the film to further promote it. Disneyland also announced plans to create an attraction called 'Treasures of Asgard' which takes inspiration from the movie. Its audience has also helped to distribute the movie by advertising it on social networking sites such as Tumblr and Facebook.

In the month leading up to the release of the movie, various posters and advertisements were seen all over the UK. This includes advertisements in cinema's, on TV and posters; it has a massive marketing campaign. It is being advertised nation wide, mainly marketed in the UK and America. Above are posters shown in the UK and America. Synergy is used throughout the film posters for Thor. All the posters contain the same font alongside the Marvel logo above the title. They also feature the same people form the previous Thor movie with a new character to entice the audience. The main characters, Thor and Jane, are also seen wearing the same costume throughout the film posters. A colour scheme is also consistent in the posters. A light brown is seen in all the posters to create a similarity between them and alert the audience that they are promoting the same film. Lego helped to promote the film by producing a poster identical the first shown above but with Lego characters; badges with a Lego Thor featured and Lego actions figures of the characters which creates synergy To help promotes the film, action figures of the main characters from Thor are also being distributed from Marvel which is an example of cross media convergence.
